Privacy and Confidentiality

California law protects the communication between a client and his/her therapist. Information cannot be disclosed to a third party without written permission. The following are exceptions:

  • Suspected child, dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report these actions to the appropriate authorities immediately.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another individual/s, I am required to notify the police and the intended victim/s.
  • If a client is intent on hurting himself/herself, I will make attempts to enlist their participation in ensuring their safety. If they are unwilling or unable to cooperate, I will employ other means, as afforded me by law to ensure their safety.
